Tone Projects has released an update for its Uni-L mastering limiter, addressing several critical issues and enhancing its functionality. This free update, V1.0.1, is a significant improvement for existing users and a welcome addition for those considering the plugin. The update addresses CPU and stability issues across various hosts, ensuring a smoother and more reliable workflow for users. Specifically, it fixes excessive CPU usage in WaveLab, crashes when loading projects or chains in WaveLab, hangs when loading .vstpreset files in Ableton Live, and crashes in Blue Cat PatchWork and Pro Tools AudioSuite triggered by unsupported channel configurations. The trial version has also been updated, providing new users with a fresh start and a chance to explore the plugin's capabilities without any limitations. Uni-L is a mastering limiter co-developed with British mastering engineer Bob Macc, offering a unique blend of wideband limiting and multiband detection. This combination ensures tonal consistency with multiband detection guiding timing and response, eliminating the crossover artefacts associated with conventional multiband processing. The signal chain features a slow limiter for average dynamics, a fast limiter for peaks, and a tightly integrated clipper. Additionally, Transient Override allows users to route specific transients, such as a snare hit, to the fast limiter or clipper independently. The plugin also includes True Peak mode, EBU R128 metering, adaptive lookahead with independent band timing, up to 32x oversampling, and TPDF dithering, providing users with a comprehensive set of tools for mastering audio.
